Scooterbbs.com was created when Mark Thomas wanted to increase traffic on www.sorabji.com.
At first he thought I was kidding as he had never heard of scooterists.
Since then we have grown beyond any of our wildest imaginings to where we are today.
I think our success is due to our vigorous defense of the original ethos and format.
We exist to provide an open forum for maintenance and performance issues only.
No politics or racism.
Not only do we provide information, we alert users to bad people and bad shops.
Our searchable database goes back to the earliest days of the forum.
This is a profound source of arcane information for an eclectic community.

(The scooter on the right is the 1971 described below)
My interests in scooters began in the mod revival of 1979. I lived in Gainesville, FL and the weather is great for riding there. I rode a Honda Passport which I bought new for $495. I coveted the then current production $1895 Vespa P200s. I found a '71 and a '74 beater pair of Servettas for sale for the outrageous price of $800. As a truly starving student, I couldn't even consider them, so I turned on a friend to the deal. Since he was a real British mod, so he promptly drove them both into the ground. Worse still, In 1980, he took them apart completely, including disassembling the motor.
They sat exposed to the weather IN FLORIDA, until I returned from a tour of duty in Germany, where I served as a cavalry scout and border guard on the Czech border during the Cold War days.
I bought the rusting mass from him for $50 when he realized he was never really going to do them. I didn't know anything about them at all. I had no knowledge of scooter restoration. I quickly discovered the fact that I was paying so many other morons to learn scooter repair on MY bike.
I determined to do my own work forever more.
I have owned the same bike since and I now know that there is no such thing as a "finished" scooter restoration. I have since done 44 scooter and motorcycle restorations, both frame off and refurbishments (make safe and reliable only).
This became my film vehicle rental company Bigassmotors.com. I have enjoyed working on such films as Austin Powers 2+3, and Charlie's Angels.
